On Sunday the 30th of June 2019 we attended the wedding of a couple, Tim and Jaa, who we have known for around 4 years. We met them at their restaurant ,Hemingway’s on the Beach in Koh Samui and have since gotten friendly with them. He is an Englishman and she is from Thailand.
We had gotten the news they were getting married but didn’t know the date however we did know we were arriving in Thailand on the 27th of June. Around 3 weeks before we left for Thailand we got invited to the wedding that was on the 30th so perfect! We could make it. So we got them some Irish linen tablecloths and coasters for their restaurant and his special request of Bombay Sapphire and Drambui.
We arrived in Thailand the evening of the 27th.Exactly 24 hours after departure from our house in Belfast so really our first full day was the 28th. That day we got asked to come down to his restaurant on the 29th for a little party before the wedding so we went and there was an American family who were very close to Tim and it was the boys 14th birthday so even though we were shattered we still had a good time.
Tim had told us to be at his restaurant for 4.30 for the wedding as we were getting a mini bus up to where the ceremony was being held so knowing my mum we were there at 4 o clock sharp. So we sat down and had a drink and then 4.15 came. Still no sign of anyone apart from a few locals helping to set up. Then 4.30, still nobody so knowing Tim he definitely told everyone different times! The first guests arrived at around 4.45 and the mini buses left at around 5.30.
So finally everyone is up the mountain where the ceremony is and it is beautiful. The sun was just starting to set and we had a spectacular view of the coast. The ceremony began at around 6 and then we all had photos taken.
Tom and I might have even had a wee cheeky glass of bubbles!
I had been gifted a pair of funky sunglasses by a friend for going away and I made sure to bring them to the wedding so in one of the group photos everyone is looking nice and smart and then BOOM! There’s Ben with his dopey glasses! I took them off again as I didn’t want to completely ruin the photos but I needed to get that photo back to my friend.
Once we were done with the ceremony and all the rest we went back to their restaurant for the after party and speeches. Everyone gave their speeches and Tim let Tom play his guitar at the wedding. Tom went to play and with around 70 people watching he was about to play in front of quite a big crowd and he started to play…. his guitar was out of tune! So he tuned his guitar and then played Beautiful Birds by Passenger and did exceptionally well.
Unfortunately my talents couldn’t be displayed at the wedding as it involves an Xbox but ah well. One member of the American family, Crystal sang while Tim and Jaa had their first dance and she was great. She was only 11 as well!
Then people started to leave but we had all started talking to the Americans and they were nice people. But then me, Tom and the 2 American kids got up and went to dance with all the Thai people who may have had a bit too much to drink but it added to the fun. We got close with Gio and Crystal and they were really nice kids. I exchanged Instagrams with Gio so we can keep in touch.
Around an hour later we decided that it was time to go home as most people had left and it was after midnight.
It was an exceptional wedding with people coming from Germany, America, Australia, Israel, France, Italy, Thailand and the U.K just for this wedding between these two amazing people and I certainly won’t attend another wedding anything like it .
